“Oh no…” Derek fell to his knees. The fighting had been particularly bad, and the ambush unexpected. He had thought that they had been holding their own, himself, Scott, Allison, Jackson, Boyd, Erica, Isaac and Stiles, but he hadn’t seen the swift attack that had taken Stiles out, and now the boy lay on the ground, unconscious, blood pooling around his head. “Stiles, come on, wake up…”
“Derek, I don’t think he’s gonna wake up,” Boyd stated. “We have to get out of here.”
“Boyd’s right,” Erica stated. “I can already hear the sirens, the police are on their way…his dad will be here to take care of him, but we’ve got to get out of here before anyone can place us here.”
“You go,” Derek snarled at the pack, shaking his head. “I’m not leaving him.”
Ever since Stiles and Derek had started going out, it was common knowledge amongst the pack that protecting Stiles was a priority. The fact that, even with all of them there, Stiles had gotten so seriously injured made him a very unhappy alpha, and right now, he didn’t want to see his pack, too furious at them for not protecting the boy that he loved so dearly.
“Derek, come with us,” Isaac stated. “He’ll be well looked after, and you could be in serious trouble if they find you here.”
“I said I wasn’t leaving him, I’m not leaving him!” Derek growled, turning, his eyes flashing red at his pack. “Now get out of here. Myself I can explain, you guys? Not at all.”
“Fine.”
The pack turned, leaving Derek cradling the unconscious Stiles in his arms. The blood from the wound in Stiles’ head was staining Derek’s clothes, but the werewolf didn’t care. He wanted the sirens to be louder, the cars to come faster. He wanted someone to be here, someone to help Stiles, to get him to a hospital, because he was so afraid that the boy wouldn’t be okay.
Finally, the cops arrived, and Sheriff Stilinski was the first out of the car, his eyes widening as he realized the victim was his son.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing to him?” He shouted, aiming his gun at Derek. “You let go of my son, right now!”
“I didn’t do this!” Derek hissed. “I heard the shouting, I came to help, by the time I got here, all I saw were three guys running off and Stiles on the ground, bleeding. He’s unconscious, you have to help him.”
“I can see that!” The sheriff hissed, instantly calling for an ambulance…and for Derek’s arrest. He wasn’t seeing straight, after all, this was his son, not just some random victim. He was seeing red, and that wasn’t helping Derek’s case.
Stiles was taken away in the back of an ambulance, and Derek in the back of a cop car, still trying to argue his way out of custody, if for no other reason than he wanted to be able to make sure that Stiles was going to be alright.
When Stiles came to, he had a massive headache, but luckily, he knew who he was, where he was, and what had happened…he just wondered if there was any other version floating around, because he knew that the truth wasn’t going to be viable.
“Dad?” he looked over at his father, who was sitting in a chair, staring at him, seemingly just waiting for him to make a move.
“Stiles, how do you feel?”
“Like someone hit me over the head with a pipe,” he quipped.
“Well? What happened?”
“Someone hit me over the head with a pipe,” he stated.
“Was it Derek Hale?” The Sheriff didn’t waste any time getting to that question. His son had accused Derek of things before, but not recently, and Stiles gulped, shaking his head.
“It wasn’t Derek, dad.”
“He was at the scene of the crime,” Mr. Stilinski stated. “Your blood is all over his clothes.”
“Yeah, dad, because he was trying to protect me!” Stiles sighed. “Look, dad…there’s…there’s something we need to talk about.”
“Well first this Derek thing. They’ve got him in lockup, so he can’t come after you,” he stated. “You don’t have to be afraid to tell me the truth.”
“Dad!” Stiles frowned. “Have him released! He didn’t do it!”
“All of the evidence said he did, and if you can’t tell me who it was, I’m going to have to operate under the assumption that it was Derek.”
“It wasn’t Derek!” Stiles shouted. “My blood is all over him because he was trying to protect me, because he’s my boyfriend and that’s what boyfriends do!”
The words spilled out of Stiles’ mouth without him being able to think on them, or filter them at all, and his eyes grew wide. What the hell had he just done? Had he just revealed that much secret information about himself without staging it in a way that his father would be able to understand? Fuck…
“Well I’ll just…I’ll call and have him released then.” The sheriff disappeared from the room, leaving Stiles alone.
An hour later, Derek came rushing into the room.
“Baby…” he ran to the bed, kissing Stiles passionately.
“Hey, yourself.” Stiles smiled up at him as they pulled apart. “So I told my dad.”
“Oh…that’s…not ideal timing,” Derek stated. “Considering he just had me arrested.”
“I know, that’s why I had to tell him. He wasn’t going to let go of the whole “you busted my head open” thing…so I had to tell him why you would be protecting me.”
“Yeah?” Derek smiled, climbing into the bed with him. “Well I’ll always protect you.” He nuzzled Stiles gently.
“I know.” Stiles nodded. “As for my dad?”
“We’ll work on that one together.” He sighed.
“When he knows how much you care about me, it’ll all be okay,” he whispered. “Trust me on this one. I know.”
“You’ve got the whole sheriff’s department and a whole wolf pack protecting you, and you still get your head split open.” Derek laughed.
“Yeah, well maybe I just like making you worry.” Stiles leaned in, kissing Derek gently before settling in, cuddled against him, unaware that his father was watching from the window, a smile in place on his face, just glad that his son was happy and safe.
