Wow, I don't even know what to say. It's fucking bleak, and I heart it. Jack and Ianto always seemed like they'd be awkward because of the age thing.

I feel bad for Jack because he really doesn't have any choice but to involve himself in dubious relationship dynamics. I mean, the guy can't spend an eternity alone.

For some reason, when I read, "a stack of Christmas picture books, not quite age-appropriate by the looks of it." I THOUGHT THAT JACK WAS BUYING STEVEN PORN. IT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE. THAT IS WHAT THIS FANDOM DOES TO MY BRAIN.

This fic is just wonderful. The opening is so vivid with the door and the cold, and Jack's little "Ianto is sharing!" smile, and then Ianto just keeps going, and Jack suddenly has to handle that. Oh, boys.

(I had an enormous Berenstain Bears collection as a child. I named the imaginary poltergeists in my school "Stan" and "Jan." That's...actually a long story.)

I didn't understand until the title of the book was literally spelled out. I've decided that we're totally fine people, because it's Jack. For him, a cigar is probably almost never just a cigar.
