Dear Code geass fandom:

It IS possible to like BOTH Rolo Lamperouge and Shirley Fennette.

double standard?, "oppose lulu and die!!!", character a vs. character b, code geass, crying "devoted = weak", crying "love intrest = bitch", crying "in love = stalker!", die for our ship

I'm not into Code Geass, but I'm a fan of two characters from Naruto who I apparently can't be a fan of: Shikamaru and Hidan. The latter killed the former's teacher, and the former killed the latter in revenge, and according to the batshit fringe of the Naruto fandom, one CANNOT possibly like both characters, and if one likes Shikamaru then one must hate Hidan. AAAARGH. You CAN like a character and their enemy.

Augh, I know! And from what I can see, apparently you can't like Shikamaru and Sasuke either. Or something. Duh. :(

I recently discovered the Shika-hate and it bothers me. IMO he's the best candidate for Hokage (disputable, but hey, it's why it's an opinion) and he, despite the lack of focus on his teammates, is one of Kishi's best creations. I saw some comments on the interview (where Shika wouldn't get a love interest?) that rejoiced on the confirmed lack of Shika and my brain got killed.

That's an unbash in the making. Shikamaru is my favourite character next to Kankuro, and the bashing he gets from Hidan fans pisses me off IMMENSELY because they don't seem to understand that Shikamaru had other reasons for killing Hidan, ie that Hidan was a threat to Konoha because he was after our hero. G-d forbid Shikamaru protect his fucking village. And G-d forbid he feel angry over watching his sensei be killed in front of him in a horrific manner. He seems to get compared to the Sauce a lot over revenge and it's all OMG KISHI IS A DOUCHE HOW COME SASUKE CAN'T TAKE REVENGE BUT IT'S OK FOR SHIKAMARYSTU AUTHOR'S DARLING RAR RAR.
I actually like the look of Code Geass. I seem to recall Shirley is a bit like Orihime, so no wonder people hate the poor girl!

It has always seem to be that the only reason people hate these two is the fact that they both love Lelouch and want his attention in a more selfish way - Shirley likes him, and Rolo wants to stay by his side. I mean, since when selfish is a profanity? It's why sibling rivalry, relationship abuse occurs.

I don't care for Rolo, but the fandom hatred for him is astoundingly asinine.

While I'm a Lelouch/Shirley fan myself, and I can't forgive Rolo for what he did, I don't think it's fair to hate him, considering his history and especially, the way he redeemed myself. It may be myself, but I think somewhere, Rolo understood what he did is wrong and because of this, he thought giving his life was the only way to redeem himself.

Lelouch wasn't innocent either. In a way, he's responsible of the death of both Shirley and Rolo by using them and/or keeping them oblivious of his true intentions. And while Lelouch certainly didn't forgive Rolo, in the end, he felt some compassion for him.

Why can't fans do the same? ):

Wasn't Rolo basically brought up to be a killer? I saw him under the Tykebomb trope on TV Tropes.

You're right, he is. That helped building his twisted and fucked up personality, but he was trained to kill under orders. Shirley's death was his own plan. While he certainly has responsibility for this, his history must be considered. It's unfair to put all the blame over him.

I don't understand why liking one character means that you have to hate all the characters that oppose them.

I'm a huge Sensui fan. But I also like Yusuke, Mitarai, and Koenma.

This particular rant was inspired by a Tv Troper who's a RABID Shirley fan as well as a HUGE Rolo basher. The Draco In Leather Pants, Die For Our Ship and Ron The Death Eater pages, as well as the CG Character Sheet, have them completely dragging Rolo into the mud and insisting that his fans completely overlook his flaws, while painting Shirley as an absolute Purity Sue who never ever did anything wrong or commited a mistake.

As someone who loves both Shir-Shir and Rolo, I almost want to scream whenever they treat Rolo like shit and Sue-fy Shirley. I love Rolo but I don't overlook how fucked-up he was, and I adore Shirley because she was very innocent but also very *human*!

That and she needed to be written out somehow since appearantly her VA couldn't do more episodes for some personal matter :) Haha, even though Rolo did kill Shirely off, it was kind of something that needed to be done in a sense.

Tragically, Euphie was killed off so no love interest for Suzuku so Shirely kinda had to go too...considering she was a love interest. Plus this death gives an idea of what an emotional wreck Rolo really was.
