Pfffft. I remember people screaming and bitching about Konan *before* she even appeared. "She better not be ANOTHER useless, stupid medic-nin", anyone? >:O
I do want to like her, but the way Kishimoto's handled her (and most other female/side characters lately) so far is making it pretty hard.
Doesn't help that her entire role so far has pretty much been to try and fight Jiraiya, get immediately incapacitated (by being covered in oil and tied up, no less) and leaving the battle as soon as she's freed by Pain.
... Ahaha, yeah. My stance on Konan is simply that, she doesn't really have enough of a personality to hate or like so far. You can't say, at least, "Oh good, ANOTHER sweet-natured gentle girl on a team" re: her childhood, because that's not the majority of cases in the Naruto world. (See: Temari, Ino (there Chouji is the gentlest one, etcetc).
... I was sort of let-down when she was so EASILY INCAPACITATED by oil. The paper thing was really cool, and I suppose it's cool she's got this weakness, but seriously? That's a damn big handicap.
'Akatsuki was supposed to be male-dominated harem of hotness, but noooo!!! '
Technically, fanbrat? Konan - or, at least, one member of Akatsuki being female - was planned before Shippuuden manga even started. It was revealed in an interview. Just shows how much fanthings pay attention, yeah?
