What's wrong with Shalua?

Aug 30, 2006 18:40

(This is a little rant about the Shalua-hate I've encountered in the last few days. Shalua Rui is a character from Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus, but I'll try to keep this entry spoiler-free for that game.)

So, this is the woman we're talking about. The moment I met her in the game (I'm currently about halfway through), I thought she was a ( Read more... )

Why can't people leave it at "Her clothing is impractical and looks silly" and leave it at that? just because the designers decided to cater to the Japanese's obsession with short skirts doesn't make her a slut.

What it does make is inferiority complexes in fangirls.

>>>Look at the way she dresses! What a whore!

... They use that on character you like too, huh? -sigh-

Stupid, stupid reason.

>>>(And now that reminds me of someone who said that she looked idiotic because she constantly (consciously) winks at something. She doesn't. It's because she only has one eye. I wasn't sure about it from the pictures alone, but the game confirmed it.)

... O_o; What kind of person would bash a character for that?

I'm wondering the same, but who knows what goes on in people's minds. *sighs*

Yeah, hate the animator/character design artist, love the character. ^^

... Or hate their boss who for some bizzare reason wants his female agents to wear short skits? ^^;

Somehow, after... so many recent FF epics and such, I would have expected the fandom to know the most simple fact about Final Fantasy: their outfits are fancy, nice and usually never make sense.

:D So that extra strip of cloth wasn't necessary and yes, like so many other outfits, it was impractical. Like everyone else's. I prefer to call the costume design... unique and rather bohemian-ish, instead of anything else because it is rather special and all. Or in short: bitch plz; they're sometimes weird, sometimes impractical, sometimes crazy, but their wardrobe is made of awesome. ^_^;;

(I think that non-flesh arm was awesome, in design and everything.)

So true. (It's just that the lab-coat reminded me of a couple of scientists I know and they use to make some (friendly) jokes about new colleagues who wear something on the job that's impractical. I just had to imagine what they'd say to Shalua ^^;.)

And I love the designs/clothes that (especially) Final Fantasy characters run around with. All those little details! (That goes twice for Shalua's artificial arm. And we got so many nifty details in... that scene at the end of chapter six.)

Some people can be so stupid. Shalua is awesome. I tend to like Shalua and Vincent together but I also like Vincent with Tifa as well. Personally I found Shelke kinda iffy but I didn't bash her or anything. By far, I think Shalua's the smartest woman in the entire game. Being brave enough to sacrifice her own arm to find Shelke is by far one of the more heroic things ever. I don't see any of those bashers try to do the same thing.

I do like Shalua's clothing and her having one eye is cool.
