So I just came across a guy who claims Tidus was a "whiney little fuck", simply because he's a pretty boy.

At least that's why I think he called him that, because when I told him that Yuna was equally as "whiney" (in FFX, that is) he justified it by saying that it's okay for women to be whiney, not men.

Well, overused as the word is (just as slayerofgod said), I think that just because someone likes a character, doesn't make them any less whiny. Now, that word tends to have negative connotations, so let's use the word "complain".

While Tidus has his good and bad points like any other character, and I'm not saying I hate him, I agree with the statement that he complains a lot. He did it, most of the first half of the game, until he shaped up, took responsibility and fought for Yuna. He may not have been the only one, he may have many other redeeming points, but the truth is, he does tend to complain about his situation quite often without offering up a solution.

That being said, good for you.

The thing is, this guy has a history of being extremely sexist and ignorant. I think he just had a problem with Tidus because he was a pretty boy. I wouldn't have gotten so irritated if he wouldn't have said what he did about women being able to whine- but men can't.

Ugh. What you said though reminds me of why people hate Shinji from Eva. "HE'S SEW WHINEY JDFSAJ;KL" So? Doesn't mean you have to hate on him, just because he complains a lot. Every character has their quirk.

Some guy in this one class just called him "whiny", when someone mentioned that someone else's character looked like Tidus (and to add to the pain, HE MISPRONOUNCED HIS NAME AS 'TYE-DUS' INSTEAD OF 'TEE-DUS'! As a semi-rabid pro-Tidus fan, that REALLY burns me up!).

Okay, I haven't even finished FFX yet, but so far, I know of no scene where Tidus was particularly "whiny". A bit full of himself, yes, and being kind of like that cliched shounen manga hero, I know, when he says he wants to do the right thing, but I don't find him whiny in the least.

Okay, maybe that one time, when he was alone in that place, and he yelled, "I need food!" But that was funny. XD
