Les Misérables :: Eponine Thénardier

Jul 02, 2005 00:06

Though I admit I’m guilty of being overly hateful towards Cosette in the Les Misérables fandom in the past I had the decency to keep the behind a friend’s cut. At times I do look back at what I did with regret, and laugh at myself for being immature I do give myself a nod for keeping it out of online communities. In hope of redemption for the ( Read more... )

Eponine ;_; Poor girl always got the short end of the stick. God, I loved her. I cried so many times when I saw Les Mis on B'way, and most of the times were because of her. :( She lead such a horrible life anyway, I can't believe people would bash her >_< Admittedly, Cosette was not my favourite either, but I would never, ever go around bashing her on the internets -_-

Agreed. She made me cry, and I don't understand why people would hate her. There is more to Eponine than meets the eye.

I'm tired of having people tear each other apart over the subject, and I'm also tired of us Eponine fans being the only ones to blame.

I 'aven't seen the musical (yet) but I read the book and last I checked Marius ends up with Cosette. So....

And it's been so long since I actually read it, characters escape me, so I don't rember anything about Eponine's character.

Yes, it is a canon fact that Marius does fall in love and marry Cosette by the end of the book. Nonetheless this doesn't stop fanbrats for gloating about it.

Eponine is the tragic figure who secret is in love with Marius, and in book canon she was a lot more rash with her actions.

It's like JESUS CHRIST! How long go was it written, like 150 years? Stop gloating.

That sounds a lot like me. I get so tired of the fandom perception that Kagome/InuYasha fans bash Kikyou when the Kikyou/InuYasha fans are every bit, if not more guilty of Kagome-bashing.

Anyway, I've read the book and although I've never seen the musical, have read a libretto and own the OST. Eponine sings my favorite song in the musical, so I couldn't possibly dislike her. I rather liked her and Cosette the same though, even though I definitely sway towards Marius/Cosette. (I can't help it. I'm adiehard canon shipper in most everything I like.)

I'm probably more in the middle. It all depends on the pairing in general. I'm mostly into tragedies more so than happy endings though.

Fandom is just stupid these days though, and it doesn't matter how small or how big it is. As long as there is some love triangle people will bicker until the cows come home and then some. I try to shrug it off, but sometimes I can't.

As soon as I found out Les Mis had an active fandom, I wondered if there were ship wars and character bashing over this. It happens in very other fandom I know that has a canon love triangle, but I thought maybe a fandom based around a classic book would have less idiots in it.

I can't understand hating another character for "breaking up" a pairing that's canon and stays that way through the end. And besides, I haven't read the book, but I'd assume the whole thing about Eponine dying is the same there as in the musical? How can someone be in the way of a pairing if they're dead? (Well, I guess they could if one of the people in the pairing had loved the one who was dead and couldn't get over her, but one of the things I liked was how Eponine did everything she did for Marius despite not being the one he loved.)

I thought Marius/Cosette was nice, but Eponine was still my favorite character, and she's actually one of the reasons I want to read the book.

I actually am fond of Cosette these days. I understand her better than I used to even though I'm an Eponine/Marius fan. I also understand why Marius choose to be with Cosette. Eponine was his friend till the end though, and always stood by his side no matter what.

Eponine will always be my favorite character, but I also like Cosette. I just wish that our fandom would stop it with the hate. It's really tiresome.

I read the book and really didn't like it but other than Fantine and the cop whose name I can never remember, Eponine was one of the only things I thought it was worth reading for. It makes me very sad to know she's bashed.

I liked all of the book aside from the Waterloo section which was very boring and could have been cut from the book. Eponine is my favorite character and though she isn't as bashed as Cosette it makes me sad too that people can't get passed the whole who gets Marius thing.

Yeah, I never really saw what was so great about Marius anyway. I probably would have understood it more if Eponine and Cosette got together in the end.
