A few thoughts about Rinoa

Sep 27, 2004 22:45

Now. Admittedly, I am somewhat of a Rinoa (from Final Fantasy 8) fan. Admittedly, however, she has gotten on my nerves at points. And I understand why some people dislike her. Really.

But some of the things I've heard bashing her are just ridiculous.

Watch out, she's going to rant! )

Careful. There's a shitload of Rinoa porn.

Unless that's your kind of thing, of course *shrug*

First of all, I must friend you for this.

Secondly:

Whining about stats is, IMO, a stupid reason to hate a character. You'll never see me bash Marcus from Fire Emblem or Aeris from FF7 because of their low stats. In my books, what counts is character, and you're just being lame by saying stats=character.

Besides that, due to the nature of the Junction System, you can manipulate your stats into whatever you want them to be, for any character.

And I'm gonna leave it at that, since I don't wanna get into a whole 'nother argument.

Oh, but the Junction system is apparently cheap and hard to understand and makes your characters too customizable.

I never see people making the "too customizable" point when it comes to Materia, but that's because FF7 is God and Can Do No Wrong.

Yeah, don't get me started on that one. I can rant for hours.

And thanks for the friending. *friends back*

Personally, I -really- don't like canon Rinoa -_-; but I agree, a lot of the reasons that I see for mindlessly bashing her are just rather... out there X_x;

Though I really don't understand where people get the whore thing from XD; mind, that -would- explain why Cid was so generous in helping her with hentia-logic, it's really just a petty excuse.

I also agree about leaving her out :3

Personally, I think that there's a lot of flexibility with pairings in that series anyway ^^; as romantically, aside from Laguna and Raine ;__; it's not terribly elabourated on for the most part, I don't think ^^;

Well said.

Elabourating... I mean that I view the end of the game as sort of the start of an actual relationship between Rinoa and Squall ^^; It's obvious they have feelings for each other XD;

Sorry... late night ^^;

Hey, rock on! Now, admittedly, I am *not* a Rinoa fan in the least bit XD, but your points are all sound and I wish some of the more rabid FF8 fanboys and fangirls could take them to heart. I think the main thing people lack is sound reasoning behind their beliefs. I don't like Rinoa because she comes off as superficial from the first time that you see her in the game, and I don't care for her personality. Bam, that's it.

However, I'm not going to get into a fit about any matter of trivial things in the game. She's a nice girl, for the most part, just trying to do the right thing. *shrugs* I think sometimes people read into it too much. :)

My Rinoa had great stats even without junction. Her strength and vitality was highest, and I never use magic or GFs, so she was one of my best fighters.

On the two-timing note, it doesn't actually outright state that Rinoa and Seifer were involved. Yes, they spent the summer together, and Rinoa says that she thought she was in love and that they were close, but it could've just been a deep friendship.

I personally didn't like her at all the first time I played through, but I spent most of that game deeply depressed that Seifer, Fujin and Raijin weren't playable. Well, Seifer was for a tiny bit, but that hardly counts. I'm beginning to like her a bit more now, though. She certainly doesn't force herself upon or manipulate Squall. She hired SeeD, she got SeeD and she may ask what she wants of SeeD.

If she really wanted to screw him, couldn't she just order him under the terms of the contract to jump in bed with her?

Oh. Em. Gee. That would be the best parody evar.

And yeah, I don't get the whole two-timing thing at all. *shrug*

And on a side note, it would have been SO frikkin' cool if Seifer, Fujin, and Raijin had been playable.
