Yet ANOTHER rant

In Fushig Yuugi, Miaka and Yui both angst quite a bit. Yet while Yui is seen as "cool and mature and deep" for her angst, fans use Miaka's angsting as another reason to bash her. I DON'T get this at all ( Read more... )

I wouldn't bash either of them (and not just becuase I'm here) but if I had to pick one I'd pick Miaka. Yui did go through a lot, but then she turned around and put other people through a lot. (I haven't read all of it yet, so I don't know everything)

I just don't see Miaka as stupid or whiny; she did have legitimate problems.

I've always liked Miaka, because I could see myself in her. She's very human, and as such, has human problems and deals with them accordingly.

Yui was colder. More bad things happened to her, and she blamed Miaka, so in all actuality I've always liked Yui less than Miaka. But I would never go so low as to bash her.

*nods*

And even so, her turning into a cold, vindictive rival was Nakago's doing. I'm known to blame Nakago for the whole mess with Miaka and Yui, but...he was just THAT bent on summoning Seiryuu. Gotta admire his determination, at least. XD

Yes, that's true. And yet, Nakago has always been one of my top favourite FY characters ^^;; But then, I'm a mad bishie!villain!whore, so XD

Nakago had influence, yes, but much like how his past doesn't account for his actions, that doesn't mean Yui isn't responsibility for her own. :-) You can't blame him entirely for her own hand in all of it.

Ok. So I hated Miaka when I first started watching FY. (never bashed her, just disliked her...)
I have no idea why, and I no longer hate her. BUT...

What I wanted to say is that Yui wasn't just pining over Tamahome. She was also pining over Miaka. This often gets overlooked, but in the end of the series Yui definately states that it hurt more that Miaka had 'betrayed' her than that she lost Tamahome.

I just thought I'd say that. Because I have nothing else to say.

Oh, I know. I know she was really pining for Miaka, it's just that early in the story it makes it seem like she's all focused on Tamahome. Perhaps I should've been clearer there... ^_^; *goes to edit*

*grin* Maybe. I'm also just a picky picky Seiryuu fan. Like... I almost never meet any people with the insane amount of loyalty I have to my characters.

I always meet people who are convinced that Yui is an evil bitch and that Suboshi is a psychotic freak. Which he may be! BUT... *cuddles the Seiryuu side* Their lives sucked, give them some credit.

XD I like both the Suzaku and Seiryuu seishi.

And Suboshi's a fun character to analyze the hell out of. XD

I've been yelling the same thing at my TV through most of the series. Thank you so much for bringing it up again! I'm just glad to see I'm not the only one yelling weird stuff at my TV!

I agree with you completely, except for your statement about suffering. I don't see how Miaka's suffering was any less than Yui's. o_0 What's Yui's big angst originate? She (thinks) she was raped and believes her friend betrayed her. Doesn't the same thing happen to Miaka later on? Miaka also had to watch her seishi die around her - seishi that she loved deeply. It's true that Yui had to do the same, but she was nowhere near as attached to hers.

Sorry, anal. ^^;;

Generally, I think Yui and Miaka were equally immature at the beginning of the series. It's that Yui was a bit more responsible and less emotionally open, so it didn't show as much, or more likely, it manifested in different ways. The whole series was a major growing experience for both girls. Miaka just gets the raw end of the deal because she has more obvious flaws. (Personally, I think Yui's run much deeper - she did some awfully cruel things that reminded me alot of how Nakago reacted to his own pain. It's part of why her character really fascinates me.)
