Well today I'm not going to rant on a hated character, instead I would like to read your rants. I admit that I have a bunch of characters I dislike, but I haven't see any pro arguments for

Subaru? Um...I'm not sure how to defend her, 'cause I don't know why people would hate her in the first place. Really...I mean, there's probably something about her that you do not like, but different characteristics appeal to different people. So you could easily just dislike Subaru because of something totally true about her character. And why I might be able to get you to see her in a different light, she may simply not be a character that appeals to you.
But I will say this about Subaru. She has a good heart. She means well. She isn't perfect, but simply human.
Hahhaha, I hated FF8 (I assume you meant 8 and not 7), but I did like Irvine.
1) Shallow or not, he IS a bishounen. 2) He has a GUN! Gun-weilders are typically Cool (Vincent, Sanzo, Vash...) 3) Really, this is the only reason: He has THE most hilarious scene in the otherwise drab game. If, when you're sneaking into... whatever Zell's hometown is, y'know, to save it from Fuujin and Raijin, you take Zell and Irvine with you, Zell will actually invite you up to his room. Irvine sees an old gun there, and immediately asks about it. "It's my grandfather's gun." "Ooooh. Can I hold it?" "Well, okay, but don't break anything!" .... and then a shot rings out! XD Poor Zell.
Also, Irvine had a lot more personality than Squall, IMO. Of course, I might be biased.
I'm not that into the FF8 fandom, never did like that game much. However, Tides of Fate has a good defence essay on Irvine that you might wanna give a read.
I don't like Ayeka much myself, either, but that was mostly because I didn't like her voice in the OVA. ^^;; One thing about Ayeka, there's no denying she cares deeply for Sasami, and the rest of her family, and she's elegant and soft-spoken when Ryoko's not around. ^^ In the manga, it's more obvious that she and Ryoko are friends, even if they do fight a lot. In volume 11, when Ayeka's back on earth after almost killing Ryoko, she's really upset, regrets what she did, and is terrified of hurting anyone else. Also, in Tenchi in Tokyo, Ayeka's much more likable, and I was a lot more sympathetic towards her when she was depressed because of 'the family' breaking apart. I'd say the manga puts her in the most positive light.
