Journal backup with comments

LiveJournal has had the facility to export the content of a journal or community, to either CSV or XML formats, for quite some time. The only real drawback of it is that this export feature does not include any comments in the export, only the posts ( Read more... )

Changing the user agent didn't successfully convince it to avoid the robots ban. (wget played nice and said "Oh, I see a robots.txt, time to stop.")

I turned off that option in my profile and all is well. I'm all about being indexed these days anyway.

Now trying to work out a more sophisticated way of getting it to back up my scrapbook images as well and relink them. I'm not planning on leaving LJ as my personal blogging site, but I want to know my entries are as safe as *I* can make them, not just as safe as the LJ folks might be able to take care of them.

Oh, and for the record this was wget 1.8.2 under Mac OS X 10.4.11, standard install.
