The Scottish Adventure (part 5)

I went to see Macbeth this evening with weasels_of_fire, penguin2, avantave, Steve and a couple of others.

I understand why some people don't like it, there were certain strained elements, but I quite enjoyed myself. This is because it was pleasantly better than Luhrman's Romeo & Juliet, which I hadn't been expecting. Plus the lack of fiscal outlay on my part tempered the ( Read more... )

Nah, it was more like The Lion Enclosure in Winter :P

In all fairness, whoever played Lady M did a reasonably good line (hah! line!) in I Am a Coked-out Slag Gangstermoll. But that still leaves the scoreboard in negative numbers...

'Fraid we'll have to agree to disagree. There is - in my opinion, anyway - absolutely no excuse for murdering the dialogue the way they did. We all know Australian actors are capable of intonation and emotion - why on earth make Elizabethan language harder to understand by giving it no inflections whatsoever?

And as for the "dagger of the mind" ... honestly, I didn't know where to put myself. The entire audience burst out laughing.

I could've done without the broad strine too, but I was expecting it to be a lot worse than it was. I guess I've just been pleasantly surprised.

I do like the soundtrack too.

Hear here! The delivery of some lines just about made my ears bleed.

I too thought to myself, was it worth the free ticket? Well if it had have been a bad night at the club then no!

But I disdn't mind the movie altogether. I felt there were some clever directorial decisions made as well as apalling ones. eg that MacB was no different to anyone else. But that the wars were gang and drug related brings the setting forth nicely. I have to debate D's performance as well. I found her to be absolutely singular. If I was MacB I probably would have driven an axe through her years before... but it would have gone straight through here dimensionless personality.

My final point is I though Mick Molloy got off on the garotte scene a little too much... I would not want him around my girlfriend.

Yeah, I commented to weasels_of_fire that it reminded me of Jay in Dogma.
