Lonely Man of Faith

Persuaded DH to watch SGA Vegas with me last night, curious to know what he makes of it. His verdict (dare I say predictably?) was "weird" (but then he says that about Ray Bradubury too, and to me Vegas felt like a very Bradbury episode). The appearance of the chain with  crucifix around Sheppard's neck right at the end has been niggling me for a ( Read more... )

I was lucky enough to click on your sga_episodefic before it disappeared, and I really liked your story. John's crucifix caught my eye too, and I'm happy you decided to explore that little detail.

The part with McKay visiting Dave Sheppard was heartbreaking. That utter lack of surprise and emotion on Dave's part was just chilling. Weirdly, the death scene made me feel better. There's just something about the idea that John finally got to hear that he did good - and from the most important person in his life no less! - that makes his death seem a lot less pointless and grim. I suspect it's because if that's what he saw, he wouldn't be dying 'pathetically alone'.

I was a bit iffy on whether or not I should comment here, because maybe you deleted that entry because you didn't want strangers reading your fic, but as I said, I liked that story a lot, and I thought you should know that. :)

Thanks so much for your feedback, I'm so glad it resonated with you. I didn't mean for it to disappear on sga episodefic, the formatting just kept going weird and it didn't look like it was showing up right :-( Will try to post it again.

Something with the crucifix and the Solitary Man and Johnny Cash just clicked with me, I'm glad it worked for you too. I just couldn't get that final scene out of my head and I got to thinking about John's ancient gene and that maybe there was a more spiritual side to it as well, maybe he wasn't going to go on living on this plane of existence but it didn't have to end like that either.

This was beautifully written and comforting. I'm glad to know John didn't die alone.

*Found you through the SGA_Vegas com.
