[If anyone happens by the library, they'll see a House. Cane propped against the table and about four or five notebooks scattered everywhere. Notes upon notes are scribbled in each of them. Some about the cure. Some about the whorls. Passengers who had the whorls. Possible theories. All kinds of shit ( Read more... )

[That's right, he just read Kim's response.]

I guess it's what brought me back both times I died, Mister.

[He scribbles this down.]

Two times? Were they close together?

In the same week, if that counts for anything. I can't look at light anymore.

[SCIENCE!KIM is a go!]

It's a method of resurrection used by the ship- it takes exactly twenty-four hours from time of death to reappearance. Subjects reappear in their assigned rooms, nude, with whatever possessions that were on their person at the time of death scattered around the ship.

It's possible to take things off the corpse, but after a period of time it appears to transverse a stable, observation-inimical singularity. It fades away. According to witness reports, the system is either controlled or personified by a being known as "Mother" who resides at the far end of Carnival.

There's a back way in, but it's not safer.

Mother? That doesn't sound sinister or alien-like at all. Didn't you die?

[Scribble, scribble, scribble.]

Far end of Carnival, hm? What's the fastest way to get to her? Since you seem to know so much.

Through the temple, on Deck Thirteen. But like I said- it's not safer than going through Carnival. In addition, that way might be blocked off, since the incident with the cardinals.

...

Yes. I died. It actually wasn't very interesting.

[Hm.]

Why would it be blocked off? Did you kiddies get caught with your hand in the cookie jar?

Was there anything noticeably different about you when you came back?

If y'die, y'come back a day later. Someone called "Mother" does the system stuff, apparently. She's in Carnival, poor thing.

I don't know much about the system besides that it's necromancy. It's rather disturbing.

[PEOPLE SHOULD STAY DEAD DAMN IT HRRRGH]

[House is reading over his notes when McCoy comes in. He pushes the spiral notebook over to his doctorbro so he can read House's theory on Mother's connection to the ship going to hell.]

Some idiots led Eiran right to her. I don't think he killed her. We'd be screwed if he did. She's injured. If we treat her, then the boat should get better. Theoretically.

[Alternatively, House could be wrong and they could all go in Carnival and die. Good times, either way.]
