Hey! I have a birthday today! I am 27.

So I assembled the chess set last night: it took an hour and a half to print, cut-out and assemble, which isn't too bad.

I think this loooks great! You did wonderful things riffing off the design of the original chess 'characters' (I suppose they are characters after all) -- the pawns are especially improved.

Were I to print it out, I'd probably just take it to Kinko's anyway, so I wouldn't be too worried about printer ink -- but the solid-color squares on the board would still come out better than that shitty speckled look that most colors yield. Scaling up the chessboard would be an easy way to improve the ergonomic of the board. A more complicated way would be to tape little flat magnets to the bottom of each piece, and then to set the board on a metal surface.

Happy birthday bro!

Ya know, if you ever wanted to go hog-wild bonkers you could always take the 3-D printing route...

Huh, that's interesting. It's cheaper than the quote I got from a sculptor who I wanted to sculpt something of mine. I could make shit with zbrush and get these guys to print it! Also, I have the contact details of a chinese sweatshop (?) who can mass-produce anything I send them, so I might have to give this a flutter at some point.
