Usually my sunday work is easy and routine, but today it was particularly challenging. Which means I feel real tired for no good reason. The nice thing about it was that Jeremiah came by to say hi and check out the roaster. I felt bad that Alex wasn't there to give him the grand tour - I didn't want to mess with his mise en place over there in ( Read more... )

It's kind of awful, actually....

He's been working in the yard all weekend, getting the front yard ready to lay some brick walkway. He was digging a trench and wheel barrowing the dirt to the back alley, and kind of bouncing the wheel barrow on its wheel to dump the dirt. Well, he bounced it on his toe. Ouch!

Ouch! That sucks. Send Bill hugs from me. I think John might use this as an excuse not to do yardwork, so lets not tell him, k? :)

But I have tweaked it a little since then - for one thing, start with 1 1/2 c water and add the last 1/2 c as needed - don't want it to get too sticky! Also I find that the dough works better if you use warm water. Don't get discouraged the first time (my first was a flop) - it gets a lot easier with practice!

Torching the tomatoes is a good idea - the whole point is to get them blackend a bit for the smokey flavor. I hope you liked the salsa. I've still got some of mine left - I'm the only one who eats it, if Mom is not around.

I haven't made tortillas. That sounds fun.

Do you use your bread machine for pizza dough? I haven't made bread in a long time, but I'm big with the pizza dough. I use a foccacia recipe. Yum. I love bread or well, even just the dough.

Glad you enjoyed your weekend. :D

I thought the salsa was delicious, but I bet if we had cooked them according to the recipe some of the water in the tomatoes would have drained or evaporated, because it was a little too watery. But that's ok, I skimmed the liquid off and put it in the beans.

Yeah, I use the bread machine for pizza dough pretty compulsively - I just made pizza dough in it on Saturday night, as a matter of fact!
