Part 1

Chloe stood in the empty Kent’s family kitchen. With Clark off doing god knows what, there was absolutely no one there anymore. She had long since taken Shelby back to her new place Jimmy had given her as a wedding present, which she had nicknamed ‘The Watchtower’. Chloe knew it was stupid for being here, but she just couldn’t help but feel closer to Clark here with all those memories of him here.

The door started opening, causing her pulse to quicken in hope at the thought that Clark was back. As the door fully opened, however, the hope died.

Part 2

“Chloe? What are you doing here?” Martha Kent asked in shock when she had entered the house and spotted the young blonde woman. She hadn’t expected anyone to be here. Chloe had called and told her what had happened the past year and she knew that Clark was gone. However deep in her heart she had thought that maybe, just maybe Clark would come back if she came home… at least for today. Especially today.

She hadn’t realized, however, that Chloe would be here and at the hopeless look on the young woman’s face she knew her son wasn’t here.

Part 3

“I’m sorry, Mrs. Kent, just wanted to… you know.” Chloe whispered, trying to hold back her tears. Martha nodded sadly, before quickly dropping the bags she had been holding in her arms and rushed over the younger woman. Before Chloe could protest or say anything else, Martha pulled her into a giant hug.

She started to rub Chloe’s back in small circles as she felt Chloe’s sobs overtake her control. As she hugged the girl, Martha remembered back when she had first met Chloe. She fell in love with the girl instantly, and she thought of Chloe as her daughter.

Part 4

Once Chloe pulled away from the older woman, she apologized softly only for Martha to brush the apologizes off.

“You’re not the one who should be sorry, Chloe.” Martha stated firmly, “It isn’t your fault.”

Chloe let out a small laugh, not really believing Martha. She knew in the end everything that happened the past year was because of her… of her mistakes and choices. She doubted Clark would have left if she hadn’t split Doomsday and Davis, because all it did was result in Davis killing Jimmy and Clark losing hope in his humanity.

“How about I make pie?”

Part 5

“Well, good thing my pies taste didn’t change while I was away.” Martha stated before savoring another bite. Chloe smiled up at her and nodded. “It feels really good to be back here… despite everything.” Martha admitted softly glancing around the kitchen. It felt as if it had been years since she had been home.

“Do you regret it?” Chloe asked softly. “Becoming senator, I mean?”

“Sometimes. It’s a difficult job - being a senator. And sometimes I wish everything was as it was - when it was just the farm or just the Talon. But then I also love it.”

Part 6

“Thanks,” Chloe stated before pulling her in for another hug. The love and warmth practically radiated off Martha and into Chloe, which greatly comforted the blonde. She had desperately needed comfort and someone to lean against the past month but really didn’t have anyone. Jimmy was dead, Lois was still missing, Clark was gone, Oliver was taking care of his CEO business, and the other team members had long since left.

“Anytime, Chloe, anytime.”

“Happy Mother’s Day,” Chloe stated with a small smile. Martha kissed her forehead.

“Thank you Chloe… you have no idea how much that means to me.”

THE END.
