I feel like doing some memes! Because classes are done (mostly; one more lecture tomorrow that I don't have to pay attention to totally doesn't count), and I don't feel like starting final papers tonight ( Read more... )

Maes/Gracia (I'M SORRY) harmonyangel May 22 2011, 19:13:04 UTC
"I'll be working late tonight. Don't wait up for me," Maes said, grabbing his coat off the rack. It was half inside-out, and he started twisted his body in knots, trying to get it over his shoulders.

Gracia came up behind him, snatching the coat away and setting it right before helping her husband slip it on. "Don't work too hard, dear. I'll have a peach pie cooling on the counter when you get home, if you need fortifications, but I want you to get some rest, too."

Maes turned, buttoning up his coat, his grin brilliant as always. "Have I ever told you that you are the most amazing woman in the entire universe?"

Gracia smiled, standing on tiptoes to kiss her husband goodbye. "Only every day."

"And I always mean it." Maes squeezed her hand, gave a little salute, and stepped out the door, coattails flying behind him.

It was the last time she ever saw him alive.

Hey, at least they had the brains to make sure the important stuff was said!

I love your descriptions of Maes' physicality. They're so right on.

Thank you!

I wanted to give them something happier -- their first kiss, or a kiss after Elysia was born, or SOMETHING -- but this is what popped out. I like to think they were able to say those things, though. It would be a shame if they hadn't got any kind of goodbye.

This is VERY true. Gracia is not going to be stuck with the regret of things that went wrong -- it's the other kind of tragedy.

Yes yes, exactly. She doesn't have to feel guilty or regretful. It's pure sorrow out of loss of something that was great.
