Wow, for once I haven't read any of the stories on the list. I think for the most part I'm still hangin in pre-DH and the "let's just ignore it" for the most part world. I've become really picky when it comes to my characterization I think. And I guess for me there's this weird fear of starting a new story. I tend to go back to the classics for the satisfaction. I was thinking about rereading The Buried Life maybe...

This is a tad random, but do you have like your top favorite classics in ss/hg? I'm suddenly curious...

Of the novels on this post, I'd really recommend trying at least Blameless Vestal, although that wouldn't be the story of Mundungus I'd recommend as an introduction to her or that I love the most, those would be To Make Much of Time or Trail of the Black Star or Down the Ferret hole.

It would be a long list. But FFI, Soul Searching, and Fire and the Rose at the top of my head would head the list.

Oh yes, now I remember you telling me some of your favorite stories.

Indeed there are stories to try...

I think what always makes me happy is that I can always go back to the stories I love. It sounds rather simple, but it isn't. Bambu once told me how some stories are like foods you wouldn't try again, others are like good meals, and others are like banquets. It adds a nice perspective when you read I think.

Mists of Time by Amr I really want to read. But I'm holding off until it's finished. I'm also happy that Pet Project is being updated.

I saw the Pet Project update and squeed. But I'm staying strong and won't go look till she's finished. She updates so infrequently (Pot, meet Kettle--I know) that it's just too frustrating and I forget too much--I rather read it entire from the beginning afresh when she finished.

Wonderful. I get a craving for good new SSHG novels, Google a bit, and find this fantastic list! Yay. I look forward to digging through it. :) Thank you for putting it up here!

I think there are stronger SSHG novels in the other eras I have lists for (Classical, OotP, HBP) and stronger DH era SSHG stories in the other lengths (see the epics and novellas). Also not on my LJ are SSHG novels posted after July 21, 2008--there I'd particularly recommend somigliana's The Silvering Divide and silburygirl's The Proper Care and Feeding of Zombies

Happy reading!
