That is certainly a respectable total - and what's better, you've been able to write roughly the same amount each day. Now, apply that to BOS... *g*
I've been trying to dig through fanfic trope and find the so called gems - I'm not having any luck. There are way, way, way more HP fic sites on the net than I ever new about. Scary.
Well, not quite the same amount. I had a good start at first--even totaling over 3 thousand words on one day then dribbled down. But even 500 words a day would leave you at the end of a month 15,000 words--about two chapters--or an update every two weeks.

Loads. And if you look on HP rec sites and ship rec websites you actually find there's a lot of HP fic on individual, personal sites and LJ. Generally, not the pattern with the SS/HG we're familiar with.
As for site trawling--I find even on moderated sites I'm doing well if 10 percent wind up on my favs list--ie rec'able. When I deliberately combed thru R/Hr--and that was from recs so it was already cherry-picked I still found only about 15 recable from about 15 I tried. I just went thru 12 JP/LE on two rec lists--"gem" count--2.
And I don't like where your excerpt is going. *pout* Well, I like your writing, I just don't like what you apparently are putting poor Severus through! (And as I assume that's the point - very nice.)
Well, with only a few days of torture NaNo to go, hard not to be.
As for poor Severus--for all you know he's Apparated to Tahiti and is surrounded by lei and mai tai. Whatever gave you the idea he was in trouble? ::eg::
Oh, ouch, ouch, ouch. Your writing is really so rich here: Hermione's reflexive yearning for Severus, and then her equally reflexive, defensive self-mocking (what had I expected...perhaps next there would be flowers).
And Marguerite's response, and how it alerts Hermione to an intuitive leap-- this really is good stuff, whether you believe it or not,
Ah, but can it be connected up and make sense *cringes* I tell ya' I won't ever try this again without an outline. You do something like this, you really, really need to know where you're going.

I'm still glad I did this, and I learned a lot from it.

Someting I think we'd all like to know.
*checks under the bed* Nope, not there.
*checks under the sheets* Damn, not there either.
Hang in there, you're almost done.
