Because I need to take the curse off my jitters about writing and posting, I'm going to shamelessly post here a work of fluff in honor of Severus Snape. And besides, I don't want to leave his birthday unmarked.
"...even if only on LJ where maybe five people will see it..."
I'm first!
I happen to like your little piece of fluff, no matter how many words it is! **nods** As for Book of Shadows... don't worry, it'll come. It's a wonderful piece (one of my favorites) and you know that I look forward to anything you write.
I guess that means it's already too late to delete it? God, it was fluffy. I never wrote anything this fluffy in Trek.
Of all people to bring it out in me. Snape???? The man who threatens to poison little boys' pets? Why aren't I with the people on Mugglenet and The Leaky Cauldron offering gifts of shampoo, bubotuber pus, and hisses?
Thanks for the encouraging, kind words. If I take the bouncy feeling it gave me and the fluff from the drabble, I could make some really nice bunny slippers;-)
I quite liked your little drabble... perhaps it will spur you on to finish the next chapter of Book of Shadows. Perhaps you're holding yourself back because you see all the possibilities in which way the story could go, forgetting that you are the author and you get to decide. None are right or wrong, just the one you choose.
I look forward to reading it whenever you're done... and thank you.
Glomp?? lol I think I got so serious on my review and LJ post I forgot to mention how I squee'd in a very undignified manner when I saw The Summoning had been updated;-)
I never thought of that reason for writer's block, with me it's just I think the material feels unweildy right now, like it's hard to put what I want to convey on paper (or pixels?) But I'm going to try to write something everyday even if it ultimately doesn't see the light of day, that should help.
I think being ::glomped:: is much nicer than being ::hugged:: in an internet sort of way. Honestly, it's just a rather endearing expression that I've latched onto from the LJ.
I completely understand about unwieldy. The Summoning at this point has so many threads in the loom that weaving them into a whole isn't particularly easy, and I find myself weighed down by the enormity of the task on occasion. I have this whole 'writing for the trashcan' theory, in which I just write... expecting the first pages to be unusable. After about two or three pages my mind settles and the words just begin to flow. It's a very helpful psychological tool for me, and gets me over the worst hurdles (well, usually.)
It's part of what I love in The Summoning though, and others among my favorites. That it's not just about Snape and Hermione but takes in the "silver trio" and the "golden trio," Draco and Ginny, Sirius Black (hiss) and the Arthurian elements.
I think I'm almost as much a Slytherinphile as a Snapeaholic, because not only have I found DM/HG appeals, but I love fics where we get a glimpse of Snape in his role as Head of House or get a closer look at characters like Zabini or Parkinson--which takes in that wider world--gives you a rich tapestry. But that is harder to write I think
( ... )
*snicker* See, secret fluffiness WILL out. :D Actually, fluffy or not, I rather liked it. It's sweet and lord knows old Severus could use a little hope and light for a change. And if it gets "Book of Shadows" moving along, all the better. Kudos for posting it ... even where only a few of us get to enjoy.
Oh, go ahead, laugh. The horrible thing is I can just imagine Snape's reaction to something this fluffy--the way he'd sneer (and when you can imagine fictional characters snarking back at you, you really have to wonder if you've lost it). Though God knows Severus could use a little lightness--he's not getting it from JKR, or so far either of our WIPs!
Thing is, never mind fluff, I have always tended to sneer at drabbles. But still, they're good ice breakers--I recommend it. C'mon, you know you want to! Just one hundred little itty bitty words. It doesn't have to be fluffy...
And I, for one, want to see more of "To Meet the Black Crow" while you're at it. Not that I'm greedy. Or pushy.

Although considering what I think JKR has in store for our beloved Professor, it does tend to make me want to see happy endings for him in fic.
