This is your life, are you who you want to be?

I've been doing more of my "future" thinking lately. The STA-21 results come out next month and I'm becoming more and more confident that I won't be selected. I know I have just as good of a shot as the next person, but I'm definitely not depending on it becoming a reality. It's always good to have a back up plan in place anyway. I'll apply ( Read more... )

Reguardless of if you get out soon or down the road, I highly reccomend going reserves. I will say that as an enlisted reservist you do have a good chance of being recalled. I am a career reservist and have been recalled 3 times. Mainly because I am in a community that actually has a worthwhile mission. Two of those deployments were back to back Kosovo-Kuwait for 18 months. If you want to talk about the reserves let me know.

What religion are you thinking about switching from/to?

I'll take any info I can get on the reserves. I'd rather plan now than right before I get out. I think my biggest question is where I'm allowed to have my reserve station/command, do I get to pick or is it just like Active orders? If given the choice, I'd rather go back East, but the Navy won't send me there while I'm active.

I don't foresee myself getting recalled since my rate isn't exactly hurting for people. Especially at the rank I'll be getting out with (it's fairly common).

I was raised Methodist and I'm trying to find a religion that doesn't focus too much on any one prophet. Is it too much to want a religion that's all about God..? ;) I was considering Unitarian Universalism since it's so open minded to whatever you believe.

"The wonderful things about reserves is that reserves are wonderful things"

Seriously, for the most part you can chose your command or reserve center. It sounds like you like to do stuff and wouldnt be happy sitting around a reserve center in your blues. So if you decide to get out I will help you find a good unit that actually does stuff. If you can talk to you detailer about you next duty station look in to the NECC units. I am with a MIUW now and soon to be IBU. We have our own Warfare pin now.

As far as the religion stuff I went to a Unitarian church a couple of times and was not real impressed. I was the only one with a bible. I dont consider my self to be anything but prodestant.

That's great that we can choose; it was what I was the most worried about. I know a few people who drive hours to get to their reserve stations and that just doesn't seem worth it when they don't do anything once they get there.

I'd really appreciate you helping me out with picking a good command, when the time comes. I still have two years of active service left, at the least, but I'll be able to start looking into the Reserves more closely in another year or so. I would like to go somewhere that I actually work instead of sit.

I think I just need to try it out and see what it's like. Going from church to church may be an eye-opening experience, proving to me that I should stay with my roots. Time will tell.
