Caught the convention finale last night and I liked Senator Obama's speech. I was somewhat surprised that he delivered a fairly sober and understated speech, especially by comparison with other speakers this week. As for McCain's VP choice I know nil about her, but it smells of desperation to me.

I just saw her on Yahoo! news, and my first thought was that it was a cheap pick: "Hey, let's pick a cougar so that women and horny college boys will vote for her!" He's probably pissed that Granholm is Canadian & a Democrat, otherwise he'd have picked her for sure, what with the Michigan vote and all.

I heard someone remark on NPR that it's Biden's job to be the attack dog - which is something I never knew - so I guess it makes sense that Obama should try to look like the most reasonable Dem out there.

I guess I should wait some days and learn more about her before continuing to comment, but on the surface it seems like a weak choice meant to lure female voters.

As for the attack dog role I've read that about Biden. But even aside from attacks I think last night Obama could have gone for more fiery rhetoric, more inspirational, louder style etc. It appears to me like he chose to keep it calm and cool, and underwhelm us a bit despite the grand setting in the stadium.
