Wow. That was pretty awesome. It's kind of like reading a mix of historical action/adventure and romance. The multiple character developments in the main Clex plot and the intriguing way all the changes played out and came together, plus all the cool roles the supporting actors, the different places in England, Europe and India, the descriptions of various period things and the termnilogies, establishments, and the language... there were nice touches that made this a well-rounded and very smartly done story. And the romance! The painful longing that pervaded their changing relationship... and Clark's many identities and Lex's many pursuits and responsibilities! The climax and the ending was grippingly dramatic. Gosh, this is on a par with the Regency stories/novels I've read. Really impressive. *applauds*
I'm so happy you enjoyed all the threads I tried to weave together for this story. I fell in love with Fordham, Black Pete, Simms and Benton as well as Lex and Clark and I hated to stop, but I finally had to submit it for publishing. :-D
Oh, the ending was absolutely perfect. I loved the fact that Lex didn't recognize that Creighton was Clark--it seemed so much like the Superman/Clark distinction. And Clark's planning in this was wonderful to see--I especially loved the way he played Lana's aunt.
