I threw out a bunch of old journal pages and didn’t think to shred them. Long story short, my mother knows every single thing I’ve ever thought or done that I never wanted her to know, and that is awful. Drug use, sexual activity, high school self hatred…all of it. Sometimes I wish my dad knew stuff that I thought about or things I've done, I think it would draw us closer together. I can't just start telling him everything I think about now and thought about then, it would be a harsh transition.

I have a question though, why were you throwing out journal pages?

my parents are redoing my old bedroom so it can be a second guest room, so i was thinking, what will people do if they stay here? read my old journals. so i took all those pages out.

I know what you mean by not wanting to be perfect, but wanting to be the perfect daughter for your parents. I think you are right - as scary as it was for her to find those pages, it will bring you guys even closer.
