“Jack,” she said, still looking at the file. He looked over at her briefly and then looked back at his own file.

“Hmm?” he said absently.

“Did you know Ethan Greene very well?” she asked, lowering the file to look at him.

He looked over at her and sighed, “Yes. Why?”

“He sounds interesting,” she mused, grinning at him.

He smiled into the ( Read more... )

I enjoyed this very much!

The end though, the part onwards from where Gwen says “You get yourself into trouble, Jack. Us idiots just tend to follow you.” gave me chills as to being very prophetic for CoE, and made my sigh with sadness.

I am glad you liked this! It came pretty easily, which can be worrisome sometimes. :) Oh man, I have to admit that I hadn't even thought of the prophetic nature of the last bit. I guess because it's just plain the way it is. Jack is the only one who can survive that kind of jump, after all.

This is great. Seamless writing here that flows beautifully. Not overblown, you leave us to make our own conclusions and pull it together nicely with the jumping of bridges comments. I think this is one of the best (crafted) pieces of your writing I've read.

And - really good look into those that came before. Ethan is a great character, even if we never really meet him. Nice that there were some TW operatives who did love the job.

Wow! Thank you for your very kind words! It still makes me preen a little when I get such a high compliment from you. I do love thinking about Torchwood pre-team. I think there is potential for a lot of cool stories, and I'm glad you liked Ethan. He was fun to imagine. And your comment about the crafting? Wow. Such a fantastic compliment to get. Thanks!

This is a lovely! I enjoyed the easy friendship between the three during their downtime, though that enjoyment was tinged with a hint of unease at how much Ianto could have been describing himself when he described Ethan Greene. Very poignant.

Ethan Greene seems like quite the character. He should have his own spin-off. :)

An Ethan spin-off! Hmmm. I might just have to go write that story. . . I get giggly when I think of him and the very serious rest of Torchwood. I'm glad you liked this so much! Thanks for taking the time to comment!

That could be loads of fun! And/or how about excerpts from this infamous diary? Who wouldn't want a peek in that? :D

I'd love to see more of Ethan's diary. I bet he picked up on a lot of Jack Harkness' flaws, even if he did hero worship him.

I like your idea of Ethan picking up Jack's flaws. I haven't quite figured out where to take Ethan yet, but I do hope to do something more with him since folks like the idea of him so much. Thanks!
