Martin Scorsese gets an oscar at last after being also ran with raging bull and good fellas and age of innocence.... but its a remake of another movie. sometimes i think the jury votes out of sympathy.

I think so too. Unfortunately there was no sympathy for Peter O'Toole. Maybe it's because he's not American!
