Peeyush, a friend of mine from engineering days ,is spearheading a venture to have a Hindi Search Engine called "Raftaar". The idea is to help the hindi using populace from rural india.... where computers have found its way..... to find their way to the hindi pages on the web

What does Raftaar do that Google doesn't already? (I tried Raftaar and it gave me zero results for "हिन्दी".)

searches for hindi script in hindi pages. google doesnt search for hindi script
and i cant read that script u have written up there ... but i believe it must be somehting in hindi...
i believe they shouldve got a page indexed with that word you searched for to get a result...but there are lots of hindi blogs coming up. i tried with "hindi" and i got 10 pages...
they are just starting up.....so i wouldt expect many pages yet

That word you can't read is "Hindi" in Devanagari script with Unicode. Raftaar's site uses Unicode too, as does Google.

It looks like Raftaar's set up business in a vanishing niche market. The only Hindi pages Google can't read are those built with ISCII/ISFOC, which is a technology on the way out.

haha something said it would be that...

type hindii (with a double i)into the search box... that gives exactly how hindi is written in hindi :) dont ask me why you hve ton type 2 i's i wouldve prefered somthing simpler.... or u can do it by using the type pad which i found was a pain

it gives me 12900 results

but yeah i have no clue about how those pages are built and its currency....will check with peeyush... thanks for the feedback though....
