I loved the first scene in the attic, because a scene like that has to happen for anything to move forward between D/D.

Exactly this! They need to face their respective demons, as well as the harm they've to each other before they can move forward, then I just had this image of Dom shooting up the Attic and then the scene almost wrote itself.

I'm glad you liked the Saunders/Dominic friendship. It sort of creeped up on me (like most of this fic) and I just love the idea now.

there are no happy, angst-free relationships in E1
