I just love Dino. I remember the conversation between Nappa and Fr. Ray and I just saw an episode of "The Sopranos" last week where they actually "burn the saint", so it was fun to take it and make it part of this moment.
Interesting take on Ortolani and his views on faith. It's funny that with so many people in "organized crime" there is this strong belief in God and religion, and tons of rationalization about what they're doing for a living so they can say they're still following their faith. At least Dino knows he's given up practicing his faith in order to be what he is. I like the way he sounds wistful and almost envious of Said. He had the respect of his followers as well as a faith that helped him. I loved that last line-it sounds just like Dino!
I think there's a part of him that wonders "what if" and there's a strange sort of attraction that he has to Said and how Said lives his life. And in the end he realizes that because of the choices he made, he'll never be Said or have that kind of respect.
