Not That Different

When Toby thinks about childhood summers, he remembers trips to the Hamptons; private tennis lessons; red lobster at the country club; trying to ogle pretty girls in bikinis without getting caught; sneaking sips from his father’s liquor cabinet at the beach house...

When Chris thinks about childhood summers ( Read more... )

It makes sense, but it's so sad! I do love their memories of summer idylls. But they are all just memories now. Very grim.

Thanks for the fb! It's surprising how sad some people find this - I was just meaning to highlight the differences between Chris's and Toby's backgrounds, and how those differences don't matter in Oz. Didn't think people would find it grim - not that that's bad, just surprising to me.

Sorry I took so long to fb, I really have no better excuse except laziness.
I like this drabble so much. For me, it actually brings our boys closer, despite the many ways in which their lives were different on the outside, because they're now in Oz, and that doesn't really matter there. Thanks for this one, Erin!

I'm not sure why but I *really* like this. Pretty much all my fb's already been said, and I do get how this is sad, I noticed it more the second time around, about how their summer ideals are lost seeing as how all days in OZ are like any other but this actually made me smile, I think it was the description of their youthful days, Chris's had that fun sort of white trash appeal while Toby's had a quality that made me want to lightly slap him, if that makes any sense :)
Whatever, I haven't slept in a long, looong time so i'm sort of rambly *g*

Thank you very much! And, yeah, I think we've all wanted to slap Toby at some point *g*
