3. Character Information II
Age/Appearance: John is 69 years old, though outwardly, he appears quite fit for his age. He lost his right eye long ago and wears an eye patch instead of a glass eye. His hair is dark gray, turning almost white in places. His wears both his hair and his bread short. It's not apparent by looking but he's already been considered 'dead' once. His limbs were lost due to his last battle with Snake in Outer Heaven. But he was rebuilt better, faster, stronger with advanced cybernetics that appear very real. The core of his body is still human but his arms and legs are cybernetic under an real human skin. He has little to no feeling in these limbs however.

This particular Big Boss is taken from during Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Because, I am a complete jack-ass, I decided to take him from right before Snake's final blow... hairspray and and lighter.
Personality: John is an extremely complicated man. He spent the majority of his life in the service to his country only to feel utterly betrayed by it. When he was forced to kill his mentor(a woman who was like a mother to him) in the course of a mission, that started his slow disillusionment with the U.S. Government and a secretive organization that seemed to be pulling the strings. He witnessed his mentor's name being dragged through the mud after her death. She was used as a scape goat for those who were truly at fault. She died in disgrace for her country, he was forced to kill her for their country and they gave him a goddamn medal for it. This continued to eat away at him. When further injustices mounted, he became increasingly jaded and angry toward his own country.
He doesn't want to be used as a tool of war for corrupt politicians. He hates being used as a tool, period. Especially when those controlling use those under them unjustly. He wants to free soldiers from control and allow them to fight for what they really believe in. Not for what they are told to do. He believes the world has grown too corrupt and the only way to free the world is to destroy it. It's his dream to bring down the infrastructure of the world so it may start anew. Free of the old ways. Free of control. The most interesting thing about his personality is he thinks he can bring peace through war. You can call him a true Anarchist. He does not believe anyone should rule or that anyone has the right to force anyone else to do their bidding. Which seems very hypocritical of him, as he amassed a large army. This is where he distinguishes himself, his men follow him because they want to. There is no one under his command who isn't there of his own free will. No brainwashing. No secrets. His men honestly believe in his dream and he believes in them.
Being a war orphan himself, he has a soft spot for children who have lost their families due to war. This results in him often taking in 'strays.' He does honestly love children and wish to see them happy. He views them as the last bastion of hope the world has left. While it's true he taught many of these children how to fight, it wasn't for a malice purpose. He wanted them to be able to defend themselves. Anyone attacking, abusing or beating a child is the lowest of the low in his opinion. They are people who do no deserve to live. What those children did, with the knowledge and skills he taught them, was out of his control as far as he was concerned. Whether he liked it or not, many of these children he trained decided to remain at his side and become soldiers in his army. His belief in free-will, allowed them to do so. Even if he had no wish to see them die under his command. This often made him seem callous and uncaring to the outside world. When it was only him living by his beliefs... even if it pained him.
Sexual Preferences/Orientation: He doesn't have much time for sex. He has nothing against it, in fact, he does enjoy when he gets it. Despite the fact he is sterile(all the parts still work, he's just shooting blanks).
Since he lost his limbs and had them replaced... intimacy is hard. It serves to remind him of what he's lost. Sex itself has become secondary in his mind. If he does it, it's more out of a physical need than psychological need.
As for orientation... it seems possible he is bisexual, or borderline pansexual. As far as my own interpretation of canon goes, anyway. He does have a clear interest in women. But he also has a habit of forming deep attachments and relationships to both males and females. Just how far those attachments go is anyone's guess. He's not exactly vocal on the subject.
However, when he's driven to do something, to complete a 'mission,' he will disregard any sexual urges he may have in favor of completing his goal.
Powers: His cybernetic appendages give him enhanced strength and speed(at the cost of his soul!). These enhancements have made the skin on his arms and legs especially susceptible to to skin cancer. His strength is about enough to lift a small car, though not over his head. It's enough to bend most metals(think Terminator) but not break them. His speed is as fast as a marathon runner, but he rarely uses it, unless in battle.
Using his enhanced abilities does take a toll and cause stress on his body. It also uses a vast amount of energy. He uses said abilities sparingly.
Reason for playing: I like him. He's a complex character and I have a thing for bad guys. Especially bad guys who aren't so much evil as they are misguided or misunderstood.
