I've recently had the problem where people I'm only connected to on Facebook have asked me to send them a document. My response was to ask them to message me with their email address, but this seems unsatisfying

Google documents. You can have a single Word doc or spreadsheet which you grant access to various people, and then everyone is editing the same copy. I'm pretty sure you can even see live changes take place right before your eyes if you happen to be accessing it at the same moment as someone else. You can also put them in read-only mode, share them. I think this is a good solution to both your questions.

I would create a new google account for this if I were to use google docs with a professional group, since I wouldn't necessarily want them to know my personal email address, but that's up to you.

Excellent, I was thinking about google docs but I didn't know anyone who had really used it.
