[When Dexter looks up, there's Kage looking at him steadily with a small smile on his face, his eyes steady.]
Read it. If you can.
[Smoke from his joint curls up into the air in a twisting ribbon, a breath of air from Kage's amused laugh making it tilt and sway for a moment before righting itself.]
[Dexter opens the file, immediately riffling through pages, skimming for something incriminating. It's all illegible to him, save for the odd keyword in the form of a name or a place. Harry. Debra. Rita. Lila. Doakes.]
[...Brian.]
[He pauses in his riffling, and gives a small, body shaking:]
[Kage takes it back, flips through the pages and speaks to Dexter as if he's educating him on the basics of science.]
Y'can't read it, means y'aren't meant to. Count your fuckin' blessings.
[Kage breathes out a laugh and stubs out the butt of his joint in the ash tray. For someone who was smoking it rapidly, he doesn't seem very affected by it--but he is a heavy user. He picks up his pen again and starts work on the paperwork once more.]
[Dexter stares to the side, off into space for a moment. He gets what the First Mate is trying to tell him; he can't read his own file, and he wouldn't be able to read any of the other passengers - but that would also mean none of the other passengers would be able to read his.]
[He sets his drink on the table beside Kage's pack of marijuana cigarettes, and looks Kage in the eye. Dexter speaks in his monotone - even more lifeless than usual - and his brows still furrowed, feeling that changing his expression in front of Kage was unnecessary.]
[In the background you can hear the faint sounds of the casino as Kage works.]

Huh.
[It's incredibly cryptic.]

Thank you for the drink.
[Without another word, Dexter walks away.]
[He hadn't even taken a sip.]
