AUTHOR: happywriter06

RATING: G
FANDOM: Prison Break

CATEGORY: Gen
CHARACTERS: Michael Scofield, Jane Phillips

WARNING: Post SONA

SUMMARY: Jane and Michael talk. (Michael is free. The gang isn't in Panama but in some other tropical country. They got the Christina Rose back.)
DISCLAIMER: I don't own anything in relation to Prison Break except my fics.

NOTES: This is my response to the first challenge at pbhiatus_fic. The challenge is to write about one or all of the Seven Virtues or the Four Cardinal Virtures. I choose forgiveness from the Seven Virtues. I'm not too happy with it but maybe someone will like it.

“Hey,” Jane says plopping down beside Michael, who sits on the boat’s deck as it rocks as the waves ebb and flow. He has been out here awhile - he watched the sun set and the moon rise - staring into the distance. Sara came and went. As did Lincoln and LJ. It is about time Jane showed up so he can send her away, too.

“You’re one of those types.” Jane’s head rests in her left hand, left elbow resting on her knee. She looks directly at Michael.

“Excuse me?” he asks turning to her, his brows furrowed in annoyance.

“You know? One of those types that feels guilty about everything or guiltier than they should. You probably think it’s your fault the polar ice caps are melting.” She smiles when she says it as she looks him directly in the eye as if to challenge him to disagree with her.

“You don’t know me Jane.” There's that famous steel gaze she's heard so much about.

She laughs as she turns to look into the silvery black distance. “You don’t survive all I’ve survived without learning how to read people the second they come into your line of vision.”

“Good for you,” he says as he starts to stand to leave.

Jane grabs his forearm and stops him. Her eyes are on him and they are serious but kind even understanding. “It is great for me actually. It lets me know you’re one of the good guys.” He smirks as if to say 'yeah right.' “You did what you had to do. Accept it. Deal with it. You are still a good person. Guilt gets you nowhere. Let it go.”

The silence grows between them as they stare at each other. She waits for his response. He is waiting for one to come.

“I hurt a lot of people Michael but I’m still in this world. I believe I’m a good person and I deserve good things.”

“You really believe that?”

“Your father once told me forgiveness is for the brave and without it we would have no courage,* so don’t start being a coward now Michael.” She squeezes his arm, smiles and rises from her seat. Her work is done.

This time it is his turn to stop her. “Jane, stay.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah.”

My muse wanted a fic where Michael and Jane talk about feeling guilty for all the bad things they've done. I had the idea before I read the above fic but that line about forgiveness pulled it all together.
