Computer Says No

Do any of you computer whizzes out there know how I can get Quicktime to play .avi files? For free? I researched on the web but can't figure it out. I ask because all these Little Britain episodes I tried to steal from Limewire are .avi (whatever that means) and Quicktime never plays them! Arrg!

You need to use VLC Media Player. Almost always when you download video from the internet, it's been encoded with DivX or something like that to compress the file and make it a lot smaller. So if a video has been encoded, even though the file extension might say .avi, it's not really a normal .avi file. VLC Media Player plays absolutely everything, and if they still won't play with that, your files are probably corrupted. You can download it here: http://www.videolan.org/

VLC Media Player is a gift from Heaven. Haha! I have yet to stumble across something that it won't play.

Download the DivX player from www.divx.com. It'll give you the codec and a reliable player for when you need to play back DivX-encoded files.

Actually, for Macs, I prefer MplayerOSX. It looks nicer than VLC and generally plays anything you throw at it. Granted, you should probably have a copy of each program just in case, but I mostly use MplayerOSX.
