Flying with <2 year old child

Jun 26, 2008 16:16

So, does anyone have any tips for taking a <2 year old child on an overseas flight?

I'm reading a bunch of tips online, just wondering what personal advise you might have.  Thanks.

Mostly be prepared to let him walk up and down the aisles a lot. But, this is the really important one, if you want to enjoy your vacation, adjust his sleep schedule as far as you can ahead of time. I expect where you're going is close to Japan time, I can't remember, but with Rebecca we had a much more successful trip the time that we started pushing her schedule an hour a day the week before. This may or may not be practical for you, but if you can manage it it will help avoid the middle of the afternoon melt downs when she decided it was after midnight, and what the hell were we doing trying to push her through Akihabara in a non-reclining stroller in the daylight. Our second trip to Japan I took a reclining stroller so she could nap while I was seeing things, and we pushed her schedule half way before we left, and it was MUCH more pleasant. I've found that an hour a day average is all she's willing to go, pushing her bed time later and later, which I think is average, and who wants to waste their vacation on a cranky kid? ( ... )

Actually this is for an upcoming trip to Belgium. (We won't be bringing Max to the Bangkok trip.) Sounds like good advice. Thanks!

our pediatrician did suggest children's Tylenol or Benedryl, but definitely test it out at some point before the flight as sometimes it can make some kids MORE hyper. heh yikes!

While we didn't fly overseas, we did travel cross country. Be sure to have barf-bags handy.

Also bring a couple changes of clothes and maybe a small towel or washcloth (or 2).

I have no advice to give; children are a mystery to me. He's an adorable baby though :)

Sorry I missed the whole Wheel of Fortune thing -- it sounded exciting!

Hee hee, thanks.

The entire episode is available on this YouTube page, or if you prefer good ol' fashion television, the episode will re-air on Wednesday, July 23rd.
