It occurred to me while cooking (well, helping Bekah cook) at Bekah's last night and using all her nifty cookware that if, as I hope, I am going to move out soon, I should probably look into obtaining the necessities of life on my own. Things I think every kitchen needs to be minimally functional:

potholders (the square or round kind) and a pair of oven mitts, the longer the better ( ... )

i agree with the above, and would off the top of my head add ceramic or glass baking dishes, also a roasting pan in case you want to try roast chicken or something similar. oh, and a cooling rack.

ollies has good prices, other than that i would suggest coupon-hunting. bed bath and beyond has a very good selection of cookware for pretty reasonable prices as well. williams sonoma has really cool stuff, but it's super expensive.
