It is absolutely extraordinary. As you say, the books contain an extremely clearly defined message abrogating a strongly positive code of morals. The heroes, Harry, Dumbledore, Hermione and Ron all adhere pretty closely to the Christian morality set, while the baddies are positively diabolical.
