The way you write is so brisk and carries the air of the typical Holmes stories very well! You write Holmes and Watson in such a comical, yet utterly perfect in their nonfunctional, bromance kind of way. The way you write this is like a walk, or a well crafted pattern, one step write after another- or, in terms of this story- Holmes picks up where Watson's left off after he's finished speaking. Simply put, it's wonderful.
I love the way you described Mrs. Jacobson. You've captured the fret and worry of a mother very well. In fact-
Mrs. Jacobson looked at me in wonder as I took her pulse. From such a close distance, I could detect the makeup under her eyes, most likely hiding the shadows of sleepless nights. "No sleep as well.” I released her wrist and stepped back, “Well, Ma'am, the worse condition you are in, the less we are able to assist you. Holmes here needs your full faculties to grasp the strings of the case.” Holmes stood silent by the fireplace, pipe in one had, the slipper that held ( ... )
