A few thoughts on some stuff

May 21, 2011 00:25

It's summer vacation, and I don't have a job (yet...fingers crossed), and I live in one of the most boring cities in the country. ( I probably should get to editing my novel, but page 23 just SUCKS. )

the things that are wrong with it, society, thoughts on stuff

That's a good point, but I'd like to point out that it isn't limited to TV, we get all of the same "manufactured emotions" from books.

Yeah, I thought of that afterwards. Celebrities, books, movies, music...all that stuff.

also, I think catching up on TV shows is productive. I think you should make a list of things you want to do this summer and include in it things like "catch up on tv show x, catch up on tv show y, read book z" etc. Oh, and update music library should be on there too and then you can cross it off right away because you already did that!

Well, for me, updating my music library is a perpetual work in progress. But I'm okay with that. Still, though, I watched three episodes of SPN today, so if you'd like to call that 'being productive', I can run with it!

I've been thinking about this! Because movies and stuff always make me cry, and real life doesn't. A couple months ago when I started going to volunteer with sidewalk prayer at an abortion clinic, and one of the women there was talking about how desensitized we get to crap that goes on. The Japan earthquake had just happened and she said something about how she can't watch the news because all of the stories of all the suffering people upset her so much - and I was just sort of amazed, because it's so easy to brush off, because we've seen it before - suffering's nothing new. Even praying on my knees outside an abortion clinic, it's so easy to be desensitized to what's going on just on the other side of the wall.

I feel like I should be upset whenever I hear about all the crap in the world, but mostly I just feel apathetic. I want to, but don't know how, to change that. :/

Yeah, that's exactly my point. I've been trying to be more open to it on the news and it's kind of upsetting just how passive the newscasters all are when they're reporting on horrible things. You know, I just realized there's a Brave Saint Saturn song about this..."Heart Still Beats"...so yeah. 8)
