Falderol Falls: Welcome, Cabrillos!

Nov 08, 2010 16:06

Juan Cabrillo came to Humm U from a tiny town in the middle of nowhere.  Well, thirty miles southeast of the middle, but close enough.  Though sheltered to the point of idiocy, he had dreams of warm beaches and climate-controlled libraries and he was determined to get a decent education using the scholarship he won by accident.  One day, he wanted to be a doctor.  For now, though, he was struggling to be less awkward in his social skills.

Unfortunately, that was going to be a big... big... very big project.  And he was working on a lot of other projects at the same time.

As he filled his brain with useful bits of information, he seemed to become more and more awkward socially.  Rather, he'd thought he was doing really well until one night he was visited by the social police.

He never told anyone what happened that night, but after that his coolness factor went up astronomically.

At least, he thought so.  And that gave him the confidence to do something he'd wanted to do for a long time.  He called up Danniele Steele and asked her on a date.

It went really well, too.  So well that he suddenly found himself doing something he'd NEVER thought about, but that seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

After college, Juan found a little house.  It was going cheap because, though the outside was beautiful, the inside was completely gutted.  Apparently the builder had run out of money before he'd been able to finish the job.  Juan had skills and confidence that he'd be able to make money quickly with his spiffy new diploma in hand, so he decided to buy it.

He'd barely had time to buy some decent furniture, however, when Danniele graduated and wedding preparations began.

They had a brief honeymoon in the mountains where they ... discussed important things.  Like how there was snow on the ground and only crazy people slept in tents when there was snow on the ground.

Other things might have happened, too.

Once they got home, the summer flew by in establishing themselves in town.  Juan quickly got a job as a business man.  Danniele spent a lot of time fishing in the tiny pond behind their house.  She said it was the only place she didn't feel like throwing up.  Juan worked hard to quickly acquire money to finish the interior of the house so that she would feel more comfortable.

He needn't have worried, however.  Danniele's illness had little to do with the condition of the house--though there was soon another reason to get things finished as quickly as possible.

They decided to call her Brianna.
