I have friends-only-ized my livejournal. It didn't take as long as I had figured, because I devised a system. I logged out, looked up my livejournal, and went to manage entries with those specific days. Helpful hint to anyone trying to make a very long livejournal friends only ( Read more... )

logged out and looked at your calendar? i thought it showed entries made whether they were pub/prv or friends locked, and it was just that you could only see them if you were included in the filter? i really want to do that to all my old entries, but it seems like it would take an impossible amount of time. there should be some automated way.

Nope, I didn't have to use calendar. It was surpisingly really easy. I bet you could do it to stem the boredom (whilst listening to npr or watching tv or something) of the post-wisdom teeth.

Here are the steps.

1. Log out of livejournal and go to www.livejournal.com/users/haplily (or in your case "users/jessielynn")
2. Because you're logged out, you can see only public entries.
3. Log into livejournal in another window or tab
4. Go to manage entries, and use the logged out window as a reference for which dates you need to enter.
5. When you've gone down all twenty on your friends page, log back out, and do the same thing over again.

I had done it earlier with calendar, and it took me like 2 hours to do three months. But I did a few years yesterday and this morning in 2 hours or so.

I think the easiest way, or at least the way I did it, is to download a client. I used semagic. It list all of your journal entries ever so all you have to do is click on it to open it then select private in the drop down box. It goes by really fast. I think I did all of my entires in a couple of hours.
