I won't say that life has been terribly devoid of Good Things since the end of May, but with the start of Summer Reading, the continued absence of the peripatetic hapaxspouse, the tumultuous return of the equally itinerant hapaxdaughter, the catastrophic reclusion of the BRAND! I very much liked HERO -- such a pity that Moore died young and won't be giving us any more books. I love Kushner and Scott, and really anything that Dreamspinner Press put out before they got into fanfic. Flewelling was fun. I don't think of Malindo Lo or Nalo Hopkinson or Brit Mandelo as writing QUILTBAG fiction, but they surely do.
Richard Morgan I couldn't get into; too grimdark for me. And I've tried to read DHALGREN three or four times and keep bouncing off of it.
But on the whole, a great article, which inspires me to check out all the titles I *haven't* read. And why haven't I bought anything from Lethe Press?
Thanks!

I did read The Steel Remains but don't remember much about it except that it was very violent. And also never could get into Dhalgren.
Nobody mentioned Diane Duane's Story of the Five, one of my favorites. I wonder if the last book will ever be completed (wistful sigh).
I've been grateful for several of your recommendations in the past, so thank you in retrospect!
