He'd lived here his whole life, and hated it, but of course, he hated a lot of things.  I always laughed when he started talking like that.

Oddly enough, I too am originally from a suburb of Cleveland (known as Columbia Station.. ever heard of it?). I hated it more than life itself (though it was my life.. hmm..) and managed to escape, but somehow ended up in Oklahoma. Blah. We're hoping to be able to move to Seattle sometime within the next few months, which I have heard is wonderful.

Never move to Oklahoma.

I have a few friends in the Seattle area, they say it's amazing. But then, as my friends above have mentioned, home is where you make it in your mind and soul.

Really good observations. You're very right, suburbia is fascinating and strange. I guess after so long, I'd rather observe it from a distance. I wonder about those people who always stick close to their hometowns... folks whose kids go to the same school they went to and all that. Are they curious about the outside world, or happy right where they are, or do they even care?
