Hey, I'm loving this so far, just as ex military, there's one little nitpick that was kinda like a kick in the balls.

“They leave out submission holds in basic?”

Basic is Army. If you tell a marine they did basic you're libel to get decked... well, only if you're a boy I guess.

Marines do Boot Camp or just Boot for short. Definately not basic.

I've foudn myself here through a rec and I just want to drop a line that this story makes my heart hurt. The POV's are really well done, and I thought that it is just so Dean to see it as the 'imposter wearing my dad's face' instead of willing to believe. I would review at the end of the story but as I am reading this, this line here in this chapter:

They’ve got more stories than most of John’s war buddies.Favourite line and it makes me want to hug the boys and also feel so sad about John. Because these are his too boys who he thinks about, always wants to protect, but here in this moment he's observing the fact that the two of them have been through, are going through, their own war (one that he doesn't know he dragged them into) and it's worse then the one he thought he left behind and it's...well. I thought, as he's bring in the comparisons here, it's like he brought Vietnam home with him, like he's never left, and dragged his boys into it - which would be something he would never, never want to do and be horrified of if he (the ( ... )

Thank you so much!! Sorry for the late response, I don't have much time online these days. But I'm so glad that you enjoyed the story. It was really cool for me to write, but also really cool now to see what people see in the story ... I'd never thought about it from that side, actually - how horrible it is that what he admires so much is the worst hell he could ever lead his boys into. So thank you so much!
