He finds the mother a mile into the woods, face down in the dirt. The woman in The Oregonian was pretty, dark-haired. There’s not much left but John’ll bank on the odds against two dead women in the forest. There’s an oddly shaped boulder to his left and two trees leaning away from each other on his right and that’ll have to do to guide him back
