It's snowing. It NEVER snows in November.
But today I woke up to this.

And it's still coming down. We're only supposed to get a slushy half inch or so though.
Still, I can't remember the last time it snowed here this early in winter.
Poor Rob has to work in it...but hopefully he'll have tomorrow off so we can avoid the icy roads that will inevitably happen when it thaws today and re-freezes overnight.

Same way, here, this morning. Glad I don't have to be anywhere.

Hey, totally unrelated, but have you read Rubyfruit Jungle?

Yeah, but you're in PA! The lack of cold is one of my main reasons for refusing to live above the Mason-Dixon. The gods are fucking with my system. *L*
I don't have to be anywhere either...which is good. I can toast my toes and wander out if I get the urge. My guy is out working in the shit though--I feel all kinds of bad for him.

Dude, Rita Mae Brown is the shit! I even love her cutesy cat mystery novels. *L*
I read Rubyfruit Jungle way back in the day--will definitely have to revisit it soon.

I spent what seemed like one of the coldest winters of my life in Greensboro NC. There was ice covering every surface for about a month, with a maddening new freezing rain coming on top of it, every few days.

Oh, I know. I swear, I don't know what's WRONG with that town! I've never been so cold in all my life--maybe it's because it's sort of in the foothills but winters were hellish for me there ( ... )

It is pretty, isn't it?
Unfortunately by the time the sun really came out, it was gone.
One of those rare mornings to be GLAD I was up ass early!

Yay for first snow! It's the best kind...all clean and fresh and you're not utterly sick of it yet. haha. We haven't gotten more than a few flurries up here in the Arctic Tundra, but it is ass-biting cold.

Oh, I love snow pics...especially of landscapes with the black trees against the white snow. Makes everything look artsy. :)

See, I rarely have a chance to get sick of it. We get snow maybe 2-3 times a year. If an inch sticks, everyone is amazed...and building very small snowmen. *L*

Snow is fun to photograph...But I haven't had a lot of practice with it. Like with beach photos, it's hard for me because there's so much highlight/glare involved. Trying to figure out where to light meter to get that cool contrast but not have a blinding white bunch o' nothing is a little difficult.

Here's one of my favorites from last year:

OH that is most excellent. :D I like. I also like the field scene you posted above. I've tried to capture the feel of falling snow, but usually it just ends up blurry. haha. I think the best days to photograph snow are on those flat overcast days where there's no one source of light...you can get some interesting effects that way.

Other than the snow, that's the view I have from my front door every day. That's part of why I'm so willing to give up the convenience/culture of living in a more "civilized" area.
I get to start my day with beauty. :)

I don't know what type of camera you have but most have at least some manual settings. Next time set it to the fastest shutter speed you can without using flash. I think I took that one at 1/250th of a second.
Are you a photo geek too?

With my limited snow experience, I've discovered I like both light conditions. Diffused light from overcast skies is great for really peaceful scenes and closeups (I have a thing for closeups of snow on leaves *L ( ... )
