That they do...Otherwise I might get complacent or something. ;)
It will work out though. It's just like babies or aging people, the only thing you CAN be sure of is that these things WILL come up. I just freak out, throw my tantrum and then go about dealing with it.
Hugs help though. *grin* *big hugs right back to ya*
I'm sorry about the kittie troubles love. I know about the nightmare and freaky dreams trouble. It feels like you get NO rest. sucks like hell and I can't figure out how to settle down my head enough to make them go away.
*groan* The only solution to nightmares that I've found (that doesn't involve drinking oneself into unconsciousness) is riding them out and waiting to get so tired you don't remember dreaming. That finally happened with me the last couple nights so I'm feeling a bit better.
Ah, ain't it fun? These two are mother and son, about a year apart in age (coming up on 14 & 15). They were diagnosed a year apart, less than a week from the exact date. Weird, eh? After Lou was diagnosed I learned to look for it though and made sure to have senior blood profiles/thyroid tests done on my elderly felines every year. It's expensive but it means that Mouth was diagnosed very early so there's less damage.
What are you using on yours--controlling it with medication? How long ago were they diagnosed?
Merlot had lost a lot of weight; his diagnosis about a month-and-a-half ago sucked up a lot of my economic stimulus. I dab some Methimazole gel into an ear twice daily. He eats like a glutton, and I've been introduced to the marvel which is the latex glove, so it's all good.
Yep, it's an expensive diagnosis...Not as bad as some (one of the reasons I was so relieved that their kidney tests came back fine) but bad enough.
Yep, you use the same medication we do--Brand name Tapazole in our case. Couple questions--What dosage is yours on and how much do you pay monthly for it. We're using the oral liquid right now and it works great for Mouth. Lou however has a talent for holding it in her mouth and spitting it out--She also has very sharp teeth...and squirms. We manage to get it down her but it is a royal pain. The only reason I haven't used the trans-dermal version is because the vet said it was a bit more expensive. I'm considering checking into it in her case anyway.
Of course, that means another round of being slightly creeped out by browsing the internet for cheap child size latex gloves. Adult smalls do not fit my hands. *L*
Thank you, sweetie. I'm afraid there's no making them better--short of spending about $3000 on radiation treatments. The meds manage symptoms and slow the progression of the disease though. I got Lou just before I turned 15 and Mouth was born the next summer. They're almost half my age so really the problem is just simple old age. I view it the same way I view older people--I keep them as happy, healthy and comfortable as I can and enjoy them while I have them. Old people have medicare though, damn it. ;)
