Food Prices and Fertilizer...

I don't know how many of you have been worried about the sudden rise in food prices but I know it's a major concern for me.
Going to the grocery store has become really depressing, not just because I spend $100 and walk out with a can of beans, ramen, and some pasta. Last time I was in the grocery store I saw two things that upset me.
1. A ( Read more... )

political, locals, money

Hey sweets! Sorry I didn't have more time to talk but I was glad to hear from you.
And thanks for the added tips on living cheap.

*L* You know, I actually had to look up "micro farm" to see if it meant something different than "really big garden". My grandparents were what I guess I could call "macro farmers" so vegetable gardens have been a staple of my life ( ... )

This issue concerns me as well and I know what you mean about the difficulty of watching middle class folks struggle to figure out how to make ends meet. I might not see it out at the stores the way that you do, but I pay attention to the news and I know how bad things are getting ( ... )

That's it exactly. Admittedly, I'm not used to being quite THIS poor. I've usually at least had a couple months here and there to catch my breath (and catch up on bills) between periods of being broke. We've been a blink away from destitution for over six months now and I'm getting a little tired of it. *L*
But I do at least know how to save money--middle class people are generally shocked by how little I live on. They simply can't imagine it. Now, instead of hating them for their cluelessness, I more want to sit them down and help them make budgets, ya know?

I know what you mean about work--Trying to find work of some description has been frustrating. Last time I tried it, work from home stuff was easy to find--Now there's more scams, less real work opportunities.

But, you're right. We'll get by and things will get better.
Love!

I shop at WinCo, a discount employee-owned warehouse grocery store, and prices are definitely creeping upwards. What used to be an unthinking, automatic throw-it-in-the-cart $50 is now within spitting distance of $70 if I'm not careful.

At this point, I shop wherever I can find things cheap. I've even started doing a large chunk of my grocery shopping at Ye Olde Walmart Super Center, which definitely destroys my appetite. *L*
One of the spiffy things about where I live is that living here has always been dirt cheap.
When we first moved back here four years ago, we could feed two people reasonably well on $50-60 a week. Now, shopping as cheap as possible and foregoing things which used to be 'necessities', the very least we can get by on is about $65. If I shopped like I used to, I'm guessing it would be closer to $80.
Since wages really haven't increased along with it, that really hurts.

This was bothering me a while back, you've explained it much better than I would have...I've gotten to the point that I only buy what's on sale, I watch a lot of people shopping like zombies, no one is happy it seems the price is all that they're thinking about.
Perhaps there really is a plan to get rid of all of the "useless eaters".

**I've gotten to the point that I only buy what's on sale...**

That's exactly it. It leads to some bizarre combinations. *L*

I really do think it's a conspiracy. I'm gonna go chew on a politician's leg or something in protest. ;)
